How to get your first 1,000 users for your SAAS product

Here's a short and concise post on how to get initial traction once your product is up and live.

Launch on Product Hunt

Success,

You've officially launched your new product on Product Hunt (or Kickstarter, or elsewhere?), and after a successful glow up you've acquired your first 100, or 1,000, maybe even 10,000 new users.

Of course, everyone's experience with this method of launch is different, but it's a fantastic way to get "early adopters" to use, test, and critique your tool.

Second Launch

You can't launch on PH 2x, so now we need to find another method of procuring new users and feedback. Next you canlaunch on X (Twitter), Linkedin, Reddit (asking for "feedback"), Youtube, and all the other platforms. Make sure you target "communities" of people who you think will be interested in trying out your product.

Yup, this can give you another +100, +1000, +10,000 users. But, this method can only work 1-2x.

Long-term Strategy

Engage in communities as an authority.

Find the Reddit, Linkedin, Facebook, Slack, and Meetup communities that you think make the most sense for you. Have someone dedicated to browsing these platforms daily (if not yourself) and answer questions for those in need. Be the expert. If you don't know the answer, ask someone nearby or google it.

In doing this, you'll build trust, slowly but surely. This in turn can create an interest in you, your company, or product, and it's a great way to get a cult following, not to mention engaging with the community can give you answers you didn't even think of.

As an example, I recently had a post go viral with 2.6 million views asking others what they think about features that should be in a dating app.

In return, I had many DM's (many lost) of people asking for further ways of engagement.

Other strategies?

Yes, and many that I didn't include. Such as:

  1. SEO

  2. PPC

  3. Influencer Marketing

  4. Blogging

  5. Sales

  6. Others (please add)
